Series I contains the Annual reports from 1997-2001. Series II details a Graduate handbook from the 1997-1998 academic year. Series III involves materials from the Office of Grants and Sponsored Programs, which offers funding and aid for research. Series IV documents the various committees found within the Graduate School, such as the Graduate Curriculum Committee, Graduate Faculty Committee and the Graduate Policy Committee covering the years 1975-2001. Series V contains the Graduate records from 1969-1988. The Graduate record is used to announce the agenda and meeting dates of the graduate faculty, distribute minutes of the faculty meetings, and provide the faculty with information about the operations of the Graduate School. Series VI covers the Frontiers from its first edition printed in 1981 to present. Frontiers is published three times a year and is used to inform the University community about the research, scholarly and professional activities of its members. Series VII contains the subject files of the collection which cover various material from 1989-2003. Series VIII contains the Graduate bulletins from 1968 to present. The series in this collection maintain much of their original order.

On August 15, 1967, the Youngstown State University Board of Trustees established the Office of the Dean of Graduate School and the general regulations governing the appointment of a graduate faculty. It also identified and authorized the initial graduate degree programs that were to be offered. These programs gained approval from the Ohio Board of Regents on December 15, 1967.
